Anyone who’s driven past the bustling Archer & Pulaski intersection has noticed it.
The old Panorama Restaurant building, nestled between Favela’s and Curie High School, has been boarded up for years, with a sad “CLOSED” permanently set on its outdoor signage.
We’ve fielded several questions about this building recently. Your civic association has been curious about this property for some time, and, since we are short on volunteers, other matters took priority for a while. However, we do have some info to share.
While the building is not currently listed for sale, it does require serious attention, as years of neglect have created some structural damage. What’s made the property difficult to reopen as a restaurant is the lack of available parking at that intersection – a situation anyone who’s tried to visit nearby Favela’s or the nail salon has experienced with frustration.
Long story short, we aren’t sure what the current owners plan to do with the property, and, since the property is not in default or city-owned, we can only do so much as an organization.
There are a few properties like this one in our neighborhood, as well as several vacant lots, so it is hard for our organization to stay on top of them all, given our lack of volunteers available! If you’d like to jump in and join our Building & Zoning Committee, please let us know.
