Major Traffic Disruption in the Neighborhood

Okay, neighbors, first, the good news:

Under Mayor Rahm Emmanuel’s “Building a New Chicago” initiative, the Department of Water Management will begin working on an infrastructure improvement program in our neighborhood.

New water mains will be installed to replace the old mains dating back to the 1900s…which, given their age, clearly need to be replaced. The work crew will be installing approximately 5,632 feet of new 8-inch water mains.

Okay, now the not-so-good news:

While this project is underway, 47th Street from Pulaski Road to Kostner Avenue will be narrowed down to one lane in each direction. The anticipated start date for this project is tomorrow…

Thursday, May 17th.

As of this release we do not have information on when this project will be completed. So plan your travels and anticipate BIG DELAYS.

Also, please take note that Pulaski Road at 49th Street will be narrowed down to one lane in anticipation of a new sewer project that will begin in the month of June, where the Department of Water Management will also be installing a new water main.

We will keep our members updated as we receive more information from the 14th Ward.
