It’s incredibly important that we do not limit communication and action to what’s on our computer screens.
We know, you’re probably already rolling your eyes. But the hard fact is, the less we gather and communicate in person, the more problems pile up on our blocks.
A recent example illustrates this point beautifully.
Earlier this week, a neighbor on the increasingly popular Archer Heights Facebook page posted a question, regarding another neighbor’s dangerously overgrown lawn.
So we jumped in to offer some help. When dealing with another neighbor, we’ll always, first and foremost, encourage you to knock on their door and talk about it face to face. It’s important to lean in and offer your assistance to what might be an elderly or disabled neighbor. That’s just good for the block.
If that’s not a possibility, or, in this case, where the issue required professional tools and help, we recommend reaching out first to your Ward Super and Alderman, the process for which we detailed in this post.
If the complaint is still unaddressed, you should then reach out to AHCA for assistance in escalating the issue and bringing it to your Alderman’s attention.
We’re proud to tell you that we were able to get almost immediate results in this case, following this process. Our President, Tom Baliga, worked with the 14th Ward, first notifying the Ward Super, Rafael Correas, of this situation that morning. Mr. Correras said he would have the overgrowth cut down the next day…and he did way better than that, having 95% of the growth and tree saplings gone on the same day.
A special shout-out to 14th Ward Super Rafael Correas for getting this problem taken care of so quickly.
Because the AHCA speaks as one voice for our community and has the respect of our Alderman and city officials, oftentimes we can push things along. This situation is a classic example of why it makes sense to join our community group.
